• Go long or go short
Short selling is a trading strategy that speculates on the decline in a stock or other security’s price. In particular, the Forex market is being traded to the up- and to the downside, whereas also stock markets can be sold short. This usually works as a trader borrows a stock and pays interest to the lender and when the market falls, buys the stocks back for a cheaper price, to generate profit.
Most investors only consider buying stocks and either trading them for some short-term gains or holding them for a long period of time. Either way can be profitable but what if markets keep moving to the opposite direction, which is to the downside? Trading the short side of the market can be rewarding, when general market conditions do not offer positive momentum. During times of rising political uncertainty such as a crisis, a war or general tensions, stock markets, as well as other markets like the crypto market or the precious metals market tend to be quite volatile.
